barrel fire

I did another barrel fire.  I didn't take my birds apart this time.  I only had room for two, which is fine.  I don't want anything to get broken.  Two fits nicely on the bottom of the barrel.

I really didn't get as much color as I expected.  I use copper carbonate  for those flashes of red.  This time the wind was blowing and maybe I was in a not so aware state or something, but I poured a hell of a lot of the stuff in the barrel.  The wind blew it all to one side.  As carefully as I could not to inhale tooooo much of it, I moved it around, but it didn't get on the birds.  Made some pretty fantastically colorful flames, though.  Greens and interesting orange-iness (not a normal flame orange).  Next time I will be sure to have someone around to take photos of the actual firing.  It's hard to do when I'm tending to it and staring into the flames and forgetting about everything else for a while.

ANYWAY, they turned out relatively well I think.  I'm still working/struggling with the finish of these sculptures.  I don't want to restrict myself to glaze, or slip, or one particular type of firing.
The quality of bird is getting more interesting...better.  I've got quite a few more to work with.

These guys almost seem like generic birds.  I was thinking of crows when I was making them though.

Of course, my roommate said that this second guy looks like a pigeon...gee, thanks.  Oh well.

Here's a Spearhead quote.  I had another one in mind, but now's not a good time.  I think this one will work just fine.

"...she said "you have the patience /of ice on a sidewalk"
when things get rough/ don't sweat it
sometimes in life you just have to let it..."

Sigh.  There is so much I want to say to you.  Wish I could hop on a plane and come visit for a few weeks.   Have a sit down.

Well all I can do now is send my love and good thoughts.

love to all and all to love,
Beth
