So, yeah, it's been a while.
New stuff sort of worked out. Don't have any pictures of it. I mean it looks good, just nuthin to write home about.
Right now, I'm in Missouri visiting my folks. It's funny, as I am going along here in MO, I keep thinking of all the things I want to tell my friends on the west coast about this place in the east. And this blog was set up partly to talk about my new home out west.
hmmm...
I took a hike down to the river on the property the other day. Not a long walk by any means, but the heat and humidity are up, so I was a little tired. Still, the scent of summer in the southern midwest was all over. A smell that I realized I missed to some degree. Kind of a wet dry leaf smell, if that makes sense. The ground is covered in oak leaves from the last fall. combine those with the moisture in the air and then all the other earthy smells and it just seems quintessentially Missouri. I hung out in the river for a while and watched the world go by. was sad to see a house built on a hillside right at the bend of the river, which was always one of my favorite places to hang out.
I'm content to be here, but not really happy. It's nice being with my parents and giving them time with Henry. but if I had 11 days without working again, I would stay home mostly and work on my house and work on my art. WHICH is going to get going again.
When I get home I will have the money to repair my kiln. I plan on staying with some garden functional sculpture and a few functional home items...but keeping it simple to begin with. gotta clean out the garage...to the dump! mix some new glazes, or at least revamp the old ones. get some stuff out there...marketing!!! It's something I really need to work on. It's probably been my one set back. I have a huge amount of work just sitting around, some finished, some not...all looking like rejects, but probably, at least some of it, saleable. How much time are artists to spend on marketing their work? I've heard anywhere from 30 to 50 percent. yeesh, but okay, gotta do it, right?
I really hope I have some photos of work for you sometime soon. I'm toying with the idea of doing away with this blog once I get going with my work, but then again, where would I post any random thoughts or where would I pontificate? I'm not sure. I will most definitely let you know with plenty of notice.
I can't wait to get back to Oregon to work on my stuff, to clean my house, to see some very specific people I love, to enjoy a cool and humid free summer, to go camping without fear of ticks... sigh
