A second post!!  I thought I should update you all on my progress with my kiln.  It really took a long time to get everything set up.  But I got it going. First I had to cut a hole in the steel outer shell.

Then I had to cut a hole in the firebrick, which I let my housemate do, because he loves drilling things.

I also had to take off all the electrical hardware.  Piece of cake, really.

And there it is, moved outside, almost ready to go.

One of my proud purchases...a pyrometer (thermometer).  Digital.  Accurate.  Absolutely lovely.

And the entire set up.  I was going to get a smaller propane tank and man, am I glad I didn't.  I should be able to get at least 3 firings out of this monster.  LOVE IT.

And then the midnight burn.  Beautiful.

The first firing was mainly a test.  I had to put things in it, of course.  I did a glaze firing because I wasn't sure of the variable temperature change, like how fast it would go up and such.  Firing pieces from greenware for the first time in a gas kiln would have been a huge mistake.  Everything fired, but there were a few mistakes made and so I have nothing super fantastic to show.  Not that any of you would care...but, well, here's one little guy who turned out nicely...
Sweet little thing, no?
I've done a bisque fire that worked.  Yay!  And will be doing another glaze firing.  My back has been messed up, so I've been slow on the get-go, but I got to get my ass in gear so I get to selling stuff and making people happy.

Again, and seriously, Love to all and all to Love,

beth
