Well, it's the beginning

First of all, I'd like to say this was a successful process.  It worked very well.  A little time consuming, but all in all, I learned a lot and it was easy to manage.  So I am pleased with that aspect.
I really don't know how I feel about the piece.  It's hard to tell with its surroundings.
What I DO know is that I want it B I G G E R.
Much bigger.  I have a lot of old wood in the back yard that will probably work perfectly for this.

The box is 2ft x 2ft and the material is lathe, so it isn't the best for supporting anything too big.
I think if the pieces were bigger, it might be more effective.  But I am going to keep looking at it, because I think it deserves a little time.  I've got it hanging in my studio so I am going to have to look at it almost every day.

Also, I thought about just putting it up against the wall (that is, flat, so it don't stick out), but then you wouldn't be able to take in all sides of the bird parts and they really are beautiful to look at.  And the definition of 3-dimensional work has something to do with being able to walk around the whole piece.  Okay, you can't walk around it completely, but I think I minimized the portion that you can't walk around, right?

Would you take a look at that color under the wing?  Holy shit, that's nice!

Tell me what you think.  The background is so damn distracting.
I definitely see possibilities and potential, but that doesn't always mean something is going to come of it.
No matter.  I'll have to put this idea on hold for just a little bit until after the holiday season.  Gotta make some stuff that will sell fast before I can make things that might matter.  I'll post pictures of the silly little rings I am making.  It was Henry's idea as a cri'ma' gift for him, so I made a few, added some glass bits and some enamel bits that I have laying around.  We'll see how they turn out once fired.
(oh, and check out the awesome plaid bit in a couple of the pics.  That's my Pendleton...probably should check it for spiders before I start wearing it again.)
Love to all and all to love,
Beth
Can't help it, must add lyrics to what I've been listening to lately, a big smooch for whoever guesses who it is...
I get all tripped up
My eyes turn to water
Rug burns from a shag rug
Struck dumb in the presence
Polyester burns from a jacket
Rub the skin thin
Break down in a diner
Then I paid the bill

i'm sure that it's soul coughing and i'm singing along with the lines, but i'm not 100% of the song. my guess is, down to this. 'you get the ankles and i'll get the wrists'

You got it baby. I knew out of everyone, you would be able to sing along with it right away. Do you have any of the CDs? I'll bring you some over thanksgiving if you don't.
Goddamn I love you!!!

Oh wait, for shame everyone else for not knowing that one...for shame...I would have at least expected a guess, but it seems no one is reading this blog anymore. For Shame.
